AGEST has employed Northgate to manage part of the fund's allocation to private equity assets.  Northgate is a specialist private equity manager that invests in buyouts, venture capital and co-investments globally.  Our investments with Northgate are in the international private equity sector, via the following three investments:

Objective and strategy

Northgate Private Equity Partners III

Northgate Private Equity Partners III is a fund-of-funds vehicle, which means it invests in a range of underlying funds. These underlying funds are focused on making buyout investments and are diversified regionally across the US, Western Europe and Japan. Northgate can also make some limited investments alongside these underlying funds.

In buyouts/growth capital, Northgate's strategy is to invest with a select group of motivated managers who have demonstrated a high degree of skill in disciplined acquisition, value creation, and successful exits.  While Northgate believes that small market buyouts represent the most attractive segment from an acquisition and exit standpoint, middle and large market buyout fund managers often present compelling propositions in terms of value creation. Northgate evaluates managers across all sizes and developed market geographies.

Northgate Capital IV is a fund-of-funds vehicle, which means it will invest in a range of underlying funds. These underlying funds will be focused on making investments in either venture capital or emerging markets private equity. Northgate Capital IV may also make some limited investments alongside these underlying funds (called co-investments).

In venture capital, Northgate's core strategy is to invest with experienced fund managers who have backed the most successful start-ups over the last few decades.  Many top entrepreneurs and technologists return to these established firms for financing.  In addition, a few highly talented emerging managers may be a secondary focus for Northgate.

Northgate Capital Direct V

Northgate Capital Direct V is a fund of co-investments, whereby the fund invests in companies alongside a limited universe of eight venture capital managers. This is focused entirely on US venture capital and includes investments alongside leading venture capital managers.
