AGEST and Walter Scott
AGEST employs Walter Scott to manage part of the international shares portfolio of the fund. We invest via the Macquarie Walter Scott Global Equity Fund, a unit trust established in Australia by Macquarie Investment Management Ltd for Australian investors.
Objective and Strategy
Objective
Walter Scott does not have regard to the MSCI World (ex Australia) Index* when investing, as its approach is bottom-up (stock selection) with no regard to the index. However they do report results compared to this index and aim to outperform the index over the long term (at least 5 - 7 years).
*The MSCI World (ex-Australia) Index measures the performance of major sharemarkets around the world (other than Australia), with each sharemarket's performance contributing to the index in proportion to its relative size by market capitalization. Dividends paid by companies are included in this calculation of performance.
Strategy
Walter Scott believes that strong long term returns can be generated by selecting companies for their ability to deliver in two areas - growth and wealth generation.
The Fund is actively managed using a bottom-up investment approach driven by in-depth financial analysis and qualitative research that aims to identify companies capable of generating high earnings growth.
A low turnover of investments reflects Walter Scott's long-term 'buy and hold' approach. Typically 40 - 60 stocks are held in the portfolio.
