We handle your personal information in accordance with a set of National Privacy Principles as set out in the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988.
We only collect information that is necessary to administer your ongoing membership. Your personal information will not be used or disclosed for any other purpose without your consent, except where required by law, for example to report information to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) for tax-related purposes.
Information that we collect is used to:
- establish a membership account for you
- to process contributions to your account
- to enable benefit payments to be made
- to correspond with you
- to search for any unclaimed benefits you may have and
- to keep you up to date with opportunities available to you as a member.
The personal information collected by us from you, or through your employer, includes your contact details, date of birth and Tax File Number (if you have chosen to quote it). Over time, this will be supplemented with financial and other information necessary to administer your membership. Before a benefit can be paid to you, we will require further identification documents and information from you, in order to ensure correct payment details.
With your consent, additional information may be collected from you or your medical practitioners or from your employer for the purpose of assessing your eligibility for insurance cover or for the assessment of a claim.
Collection of Tax File Numbers (TFN) is authorised by the relevant law. We are also required by law to ask you to provide your TFN. By providing your TFN you authorise us to use your TFN for the purposes contained in the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993.
Purposes currently authorised include:
- Use when applying tax on Benefit payments;
- Finding and amalgamating your superannuation benefits where insufficient information is available; and
- Passing your TFN to a relevant State or Commonwealth authority when required by law
We outsource the administration of the fund's records to an external superannuation administration company. They are authorised to use your personal information only to administer your membership, under the strictest confidence. Other organisations that may have get access to your personal information during the normal course of business may include mailing companies, archiving providers, auditors, insurance companies, service providers which cross match your personal details with other superannuation funds to help locate any other superannuation accounts in your name, information technology service providers. Agreements with such providers include privacy of member data.
When you visit the AGEST website, we and our service provider may record your server address, domain name, the date and time of your visit and the pages viewed. This information is anonymous and will not enable you to be identified. This information is collected for statistical and website development purposes only.
The AGEST website may contain links to the websites of other organisations. Third party websites should contain their own privacy statements and those third parties are responsible for their own privacy practices.
As a member, you may ask to see the information held about you and to have it corrected if necessary. Please contact our Privacy Officer to ask for information. You will be required to verify your identify and specify the information that you require.
AGEST Super is subject to the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth) which, in certain cases, can require that certain information be provided to the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) or that information be withheld from a person seeking it. Where a conflict exists between a right or entitlement under this legislation and the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 (Cth), the former will generally prevail.
